Arma 2 Huge Battle 1700 AI!!!

June 23rd, 2009 by admin

Well here it is, the BIG one. I absolutely raped my pc during this one, if there is a single cpu on the planet that was running faster than mine i’d be surprised! I encountered 5 blue screens of death, 4 fatal errors, and about 15 system restarts as i tried to overclock my cpu to its limits.

Eventually i got it clocked to 4.6ghz!!! The performance increase was pretty much double it was before. I had to get ice in plastic bags and cover my cpu, plus about 8 fans, just to try and keep it cool lol. Too bad it was the hottest day in britain all year, my room was 40 degrees! I think the longest i managed to keep my pc running for was 1 hour before a crash, as soon as i had the clip recorded i clocker her back down to a safe 3.7ghz :)

Overclocking the graphics card wasn’t really an issue, i had no fps gain or loss between low and high settings, so its very obvious this game is way way way more cpu intense than it is gpu.

As far as the video goes, here we have an overall of approx 1700 AI units across the map. I couldnt put them all close together as my pc would get about 2fps with so many units within visual distance. I listened to your comments so i have put much more focus into infantry and actual fighting.

The battle is dominated by artillery fire and infantry squads, along with a few tanks helis and planes, all of which didnt last long! The mission consisted of approx 700-800 american AI units attacking a huge frontline that spanned across alot of the map. There was no objective or victory tiggers involved, it was just a pure fight to the death.

Unfortunately the americans got slaughtered, but it was good fun :) The reason i survived so easy was because i activated an initialization field that meant the AI totally ignored me, so i could not die. Please remember this video is purely a demonstartion of just how far you can push arma 2’s engine.

System specs on my channel.

Enjoy!

P.S:

My system was literally on the brink of death in this video. Until i get alot of major upgrades there is no hope on i will run any more AI in a single battle than this, its insanity and i can’t believe i didn’t blow my cpu up!!!

Edit:

There is no night vision goggles for a reason, i originally was making this mission at daytime but it’s nowhere near as epic. At night time, although you may complain you can’t see, the atmosphere is so good.

If you watch, i did use NV goggles at the end to show what the battlefield looked like in the aftermath :)

Edit:

If your wondering why the video looks a little faded, its because i increased the brightness so you could see a little better :)

Starcraft 2 Gameplay PC Gamer Exclusive

May 11th, 2009 by admin

Starcraft 2 from PC gaming magazine unit preview
Zealot: Zealots are the standard infantry unit of the portoss from starcraft. Still equipped with a pair of glowing psionic blades for melee combat, the zealot will now charge the enemy to close distance with ranged units quicker than before.

Stalker: Stalkers are a new type of dark dragoon. They’re fast moving and lightly armored with a powerful anti-air and anti-infantry weapon, but their secret weapon is there “blink” ability that will allow them to teleport anywhere in visual range in an instant

Immortal: A new type of heavy dragoon, the immortals will be equipped with a shield that activates only when hit by heavy weapons like siege tanks, making them excellent for aulting heavily defended positions but weak against raiding parties with light weapons.

Observer: The invisible flying eyes of the Protoss are back. We can confirm they’ll be in the game, but further details are shrouded in secrecy.

Colossus: True to it’s name, the colossus is an enormous four-legged walker that rakes the ground with a heavy beam weapon. They will be extremely effective against small swarming units like zerglings or marines-their beams target one unit at a time, and instantly sweep to a new target when the first is destroyed. Using their long legs, they can step up and down ledges with ease.

Phoenix: When its standard fighter weapon wont do the job, the phoenix will be able to activate its overload ability to damage all enemy air units nearby, which also disables the phoenix itself for a few moments. If the overload doesn’t demolish the enemy you’ll be a sitting duck

Phase prism: .The new phase prism will act as both a troop transport and a mobile power pylon allowing you to restore functionality to a base when your pylons are destroyed by raiders or when you build away from your base. Combined with the warp-in tech. Youll be able to use them to crate and army anywhere on the map.

Warp ray: These flying weapons inflict additional damage the longer they fire on a single target as they bring as they bring more beams online, which will make them extremely powerful against large targets like battle cruisers and structures. Their focused fire makes them vulnerable against small anti-air units like marines.

High templar: The high templar is back and he’ll bring his powerful psionic storm area attack with him. But he’s gotten a handy new power he’ll be able to create a force field to trap enemy units temporarily or create barriers. Blizzard testing has revealed some extremely effective bottlenecks tactics using him. The ability to say you can’t go there anymore will be very powerful.
Dark templar: Just like in the first game the dark templar is a stealth unit that wreaks havoc to any force foolish enough to leave home without a detector. any new special abilities have yet to be revealed
